Chemical gardens in quasi-2D

Researchers report a method to grow chemical gardens in near-2D geometry, circumventing challenges to the quantitative analysis of the formation and properties of the gardens. When clumps of some solid metal salts are dropped into an anionic solution such as waterglass, the salts tend to precipitate into a dazzling array of crystals with tendrils and offshoots that resemble a lush garden.
