Researchers report that injection of light-sensitive liposomes containing the local anesthetic tetrodotoxin into the sciatic nerves of rats followed by irradiation with near-infrared light led to the induction of local anesthesia, and that the timing, duration, and intensity of the anesthesia could be controlled without causing significant tissue damage by adjusting the timing, duration, and intensity of irradiation.
