Common childhood respiratory virus impairs learning in rodents

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), a leading cause of respiratory illnesses such as bronchiolitis and pneumonia in infants, can spread from the airways to the brain and impair learning in rodents, a study finds. RSV infection has been linked with neurological symptoms such as seizures and encephalitis in humans, but the mechanisms linking RSV with nervous system dysfunction remain unclear.
