Maternal BPA exposure alters brain function and behavior in offspring

The offspring of female mice repeatedly exposed to low doses of the plasticizing chemical bisphenol A (BPA) exhibit long-lasting, sex-specific changes in DNA methylation and gene expression in the brain, as well as anxiety-like behaviors, a study finds. Frances Champagne and colleagues treated pregnant mice daily with various concentrations of BPA, including doses below the level that is considered “safe” for humans.
