Adolescent brain and response to rewards

Compared with adults, adolescents show heightened activity in the brain’s pleasure center in response to rewards, likely because of developmental differences in brain wiring, according to a study. Anticipating or receiving a financial reward produces strong activity in a brain region called the ventral striatum, especially in adolescents, compared with adults.
