Pest resistance to insecticide-producing maize

According to a study, western corn rootworm (WCR), a dominant pest of maize, can develop resistance to Bt toxin after feeding on transgenic maize engineered to produce the insecticide. Transgenic Bt maize, introduced in 2003, carries a gene from Bacillus thuringiensis that produces the insecticidal Bt toxin, which kills WCR.
