Organic-carbon hybrid materials from the in-situ polymerization of iron phthalocyanine on multiwalled carbon nanotube scaffolds without any energy intensive high-temperature pyrolysis exhibit excellent electrocatalytic activity and durability for oxygen reduction reaction in both acid and base. They represent a dramatic improvement over previous phthalocyanine-based materials. With the ease of preparation and scaling up, we believe that our electrocatalysts hold great promising for future fuel cells or metal-air batteries.
